Job Details:

Title: Data Engineer

Duration: 12+ Months

Location: Remote (Montpelier, VT)

Required Technical Expertise:

• The Data Engineer must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
• Advanced SQL with emphasis on complex SELECT statements, joins, subqueries, and transformation logic.
• MySQL/MSSQL database architecture and schema discovery.
• Data modeling, normalization concepts, and reverse-engineering undocumented schema.
• ETL methodology and preparing structured data for ingestion into third-party systems.
• Experience with public-safety RMS, case-management, or similarly complex relational data structures (preferred).
• Strong analytical and documentation skills with the ability to interpret incomplete or ambiguous legacy data.
• Experience with ETL processing binary large objects, PDF, and other unstructured data.

Overall Deliverable Requirements

• All SQL queries must be repeatable, deterministic, and optimized for large datasets.
• Extracted data must be complete and comply with the new RMS vendor’s ingestion format and validation rules.
• Documentation must be clear, complete, and suitable for technical maintenance by Agency staff.
• Work must be executed independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining timely progress communication.
• Participate in technical discussions with Agency IT staff, RMS vendor teams, and subject-matter experts.
• Assist with iterative test migrations, adjusting SQL scripts and mappings in response to data issues or schema changes.
• Provide knowledge transfer to Agency personnel, including walkthroughs of queries, mappings, and logic design.
